We started our donkey adventure in 2002 with two donkeys. That was the plan and
now we currently have 46 donkeys. We are continuously improving our herd by
replacing original stock with with donkeys with better conformation, better
dispositions and much better pedigrees. Seven of our last 8 purchases in 2009
were donkeys from the state of Texas. After visiting 12 farms in March of 2009,
we decided that the drafty square donkeys that we seen at several farms was
exactly what we wanted to raise in the future. We used the slow economy to our
advantage and made some fantastic purchases. We have all colors of donkeys, but
are concentrating on reds and tyger spots. (3/11)
Herdsires:
We have three outstanding jacks as our herdsires. ASSphalt Acres Ali is
our tiny 30" light sorrel jack that is very drafty and correct. We added Wee
Ones Tyger, a three time national ACOSA champion jack, in 2008. Tyger is a
33" Tyger spot that loves to perform in the show ring. Our latest addition was
purchased in July 2009. Short ASSetts Fireplug is a 32" dark red jack
and is our pride and joy. After our Texas visit, we decided that we wanted to
raise donkeys just like Fireplug and were lucky enough that the Shorts at Short
ASSetts gave us that chance. We can't wait for our 17 foals for 2010 to arrive.
